CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
CONNECT BETWEEN OSHE & CSR
There is a direct connect between safety, health and
environmental management and social responsibility and
sustainability. To better grasp the connection, look at
the definitions. Corporate social responsibility means
reaching business goals in ways that respect ethics,
people, communities, and the environment. It means
ensuring fair and reasonable employment, including safe
and healthy workplaces. It also means ferreting out
social risks, reputation risks, costs and potential
liabilities and managing them. It is in fact, a form of
risk assessment and risk management. http://www.ishn.com/CDA/ArticleInformation/features/

BROTHER JESPER BIDS OHSEI FAREWELL
After working for more than one and a half years as
Chief Technical Adviser (CTA) of the Institute for
Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHSEI),
Bro. Jesper Christensen is returning to Denmark this
December for good. He has given quality time to OHSEI,
even serving as Acting Director and CTA in 2004. Bro.
Jesper is very optimistic that OHSEI will continue to be
successful in its undertakings even without him around.
He believes that the present leadership at OHSEI and its
staff are capable of fulfilling the mandate it was
given. He believes that the Management Committee would
be able to provide OHSEI with the direction and support
to carry out its work as an Institute for the trade
unions and workers in Asia. OHSEI will miss Bro. Jesper
and wish him all the best.
YEAR-END MESSAGE FROM OHSEI DIRECTOR
"2005 was a banner year for OHSEI. It was a turning
point of sorts as it was the maiden year for the
Institute to be run by an Asian. I am proud to take on
the responsibility of running an institute with the goal
of improving the occupational health, safety and
environments of workers in Asia. I also have the honor
of working side-by-side with the trade unions and
together we shall be able to make a big difference and
fill the gaps in terms of workplace reforms that would
provide better comfort and improved safety and health to
the workers. I would like to thank the Management
Committee, the LO/FTF and other donor agencies, and all
trade union partners for all the support they extended
to OHSEI this year. I look forward for the continued
support and the highest levels of cooperation in the
coming year. Let me extend OHSEI's Season's Greeting to
all - Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!" -
