ASBESTOS
USE – YOUR RIGHT TO STOP IT !
Asbestos
has become the key issue for discussion in the
international forum. In 2005, out of 176 ILO member
countries, 28 member countries have ratified the ILO
Asbestos Convention 162 of 1986. There should be a
concerted effort to address this issue with the
following key points: 1) Revise the ILO Asbestos
Convention 1986 to reflect the current situation and
studies; 2) Total ban of asbestos is the best control
measure. Ensure that workers are well informed &
protected of the risks of asbestos; and 3) Empowerment
at the policy making level to push for total asbestos
production ban in individual countries. -

ICFTU
AFFILIATES IN PAKISTAN MERGE
The
three ICFTU affiliates, All Pakistan Federation

Union (APFTU) and Pakistan National Federation of

process and merged into a new federation PAKISTAN

2005. The PWF has a strong trainers’ network and can
better utilize it for the improvement of OSHE conditions
at all levels. It is hoped that PWF will be an effective
