The second
Annual Regional Trainer training in Occupational health,
safety and environment just concluded
In February 2003 OHSEI
received support from the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), the
LO-TCO (Sweden) and LO-FTF to conduct its first Regional
Trainer training in Occupational health, safety and
environment course. Fourteen
participants (two females) attended (see article in OHSEI
Newsletter No. 7. Eighteen
participants (five females) attended the 2004 course conducted
from 7-19 March at OHSEI’s facilities in Bangkok.
On this occasion support was received from the CLC and
the ILO.
The Regional Trainer
training in Occupational health, safety and environment course
is designed to provide experienced union Trainers with a
refresher on active learning methods plus skills to train
trade union occupational health and safety activists.
The course itself was
rated by participants in their evaluation as 9.1 out of 10.
Some of the participants comments included:
What
is the most important thing which you have learnt in this
course?
That I can get more
information from the Internet.
Hazard management
strategy; how to
conduct training on OSHE;
feel more confident to train on OSHE.
The importance of a
safe workplace.
In conducting training,
process and content must go together;
it has helped me to realise how great a role OSH can
play in any work environment;
how to effectively design a training session using
relevant techniques and strategies.
The importance of OSHE
and its implementation.
About occupational
health and safety as a priority issue for trade unions, and
more importantly how to conduct an OSH program.
Camaraderie, teamwork/team
building; OSH can
be negotiated in all workplaces.
Knowledge about OSH
through training and sharing with participants from different
countries.
What
is one thing you will do differently in future?
Organise more field
trips to get first hand knowledge of OSH hazards.
Change.
To use video in one of
the sessions as workers are from unorganised economy and do
not have reasonable education background, therefore video will
be useful to appreciate workplace hazards.
To be a good and
professional Trainer.
To use the skills
learnt and to try to form a Joint occupational health and
safety committee at work.
To be active on OSHE
at the union and workplace.
to conduct training on Occupational health, safety and
environment; it
is VERY IMPORTANT.
