Re: Safety in Connection with Electricity
Intention of the Law To prevent the danger from
electricity involving the use of electric devices,
electric cables, electrical wiring, prevention of
excessive voltage, grounding conductors, and lightning
conductors, as well as the protective equipment
used in working in connection with electricity.
Framework and Enforcement of the
Law To apply to all kinds of business,
having one or more employee
Main Points of the Law
The electric cables and electric equipment
must not be defective.
In the event of working near the objects with
live electricity, the employee shall keep the
distance as prescribed by the law unless:
the employee has protective equipment;
the objects are insulated
the employee technically performs the
work.
Types of electric cables must be suitable
for the kinds of work and in line with the standards
Cutouts must be equipped where cables in different
sizes are connected; and between the electricity
meters and indoor wires.
Flexible cables and flexible cords used with
portable electrical equipment shall be of unbroken
length and without branches.
There must be adequate outlets.
Transformers, which have the electromotive
force of 800 volts and over shall be installed
according to the law.
Every switch on the switchboard shall be easily
accessible to turn on and off, and the switchboard
must be firm enough to withstand the turning
on and off.
Electrical equipment with metallic frame shall
be grounded.
Chimneys shall be prevented from lightning.
The employer shall provide the employee with
protective equipment against the danger from
electricity which has an electromotive force
of 50 volts and over.
