Condition
Intention of the Law To prevent the danger from
environment involving heat, lighting, and noise.

Main Points of the Law
Heat
Lighting
Noise
Standard of Equipment
Heat The temperature in workplaces
shall not exceed 45 degrees Celsius. The body
temperature shall not rise above 38 degrees
Celsius (This is not applied in case of fever),
while the normal body temperature is 37 degrees
Celsius.
Remedy If the temperature in the
working area is over 45 degrees Celsius, the
source of the heat must be modified. If this
is not possible, heat-reducing equipment must
be provided.
If the body temperature of the employee rises
over 38 degrees Celsius, the employee must be
allowed to have a temporary rest.
Lighting
Prescription for the lighting intensity
Work not requiring meticulous attention
to details : 50 lux
Work requiring attention to certain details
: 100 lux
Work requiring moderate attention to details
: 200 lux
Work requiring greater attention to details
: 300 lux
Work requiring special attention to details
: 1,000 lux
Footpath outside buildings : 20 lux
Footpath inside buildings : 50 lux
Noise
In case of working not more than 7 hours
a day, the level of noise must not exceed
91 decibels (A)
In case of working more than 7 hours but
not more than 8 hours a day, the level of
noise must not exceed 80 decibels (A)
In case of working more than 8 hours,
the level of noise must not exceed 80 decibels
(A)
the highest level of noise shall not exceed
140 decibels (A)
Remedy
modifying or rectifying the noise,
channel of the noise; and
wearing earplugs or earmuffs
Standards of Equipment
Helmets must not weigh more than 420 grams,
be made of non-metallic materials and be
able to withstand impact of not less than
385 kilograms.
Earplugs shall be able to reduce the level
of noise by not less than 15 decibels.
Earmuffs shall be able to reduce the sound
level by not less than 25 decibels.
