Re: Safety of Work in Piling
Intention of the Law To ensure that construction
piling work be safe, monitored at all times by
qualified personnel and that workers perform appropriately.
Framework and Enforcement of

piling work
Main Points of the Law
Construction areas must be marked.
Workers are to comply with guidelines specified
in the pile driver manual. If no manual exists,
one is to be drawn up in writing by an engineer.
The controller is to check all related equipment
before each piling and to record the day,
time and details of the checking for later
inspection.
For night-time piling, there is to be lighting
of specified standard.
At least two rounds of steel cable must
be left in the roll.
The cables and pulleys used must be of specified
standard.
There is to be a supervisor monitoring the
safety of the work throughout the piling under
the control of an engineer. Also, there is
to be a signal man and piling controller during
the piling.
The ground base for the pile driver must
be sturdy and strong.
The movement of the pile driver must be
absorbed by a leveled and strong cushion.
Piling shafts of more than 15 centimeters
in diameter must be covered up after each
piling.
Workers are prohibited from using defective
pile drivers or doing piling work in rain
storms or thunder storms. If workers are to
be assigned work aboard a floating piling
base, they must be able to swim.
Internal combustion, steam, hydraulic and
diesel hammer pile driverss used must be compatible
with standards set by the law.
Employers are to provide individual safety
gear for each employee.
Employees are to put on individual safety
gear provided by the employee throughout the
whole work period.
