Intention of the Law To ensure safety in the
installation and maintenance of cranes.
Framework and Enforcement of
the Law To have effect on work involving
the use of cranes.
This Notification shall not apply
to:
Central Administration
Provincial Administration
Local Administration
Other business as stated by the
Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare
Main Points of the Law
Cranes are characterized into two types,
namely:
1.1 Those that are non-movable.
1.2 Those that are movable
Non-movable cranes are cranes that consist
of control mechanism and power mechanism set
on a high tower, a stand or on wheels.
Movable cranes are cranes that consist of
control mechanism
and power mechanism set on a vehicle of self-mobility.
Employers concerned in the use, assembly,
testing, maintenance and checking of cranes
are to follow the producer's guidelines specified
in the manual. If no manual exists, one is
to be drawn up in writing by an engineer.
A sign specifying the crane's capacity must
be affixed to the crane.
In cases where hand signals are used, a
sign signifying such use must be posted at
the crane and the work area.
The crane is to be checked every 3 months.
The use of defective steel cables or other
cables specified as unfit is prohibited.
When the crane is to be employed in areas
near electric lines, a distance of no less
than that specified by law is to be kept.
The base of the crane must be sturdy, strong
and approved by an engineer.
When the arm of the crane is in movement,
sound and light warning signals must be given.
It is mandatory that there be a user's manual
written in Thai.
